Hello all I have an irregular custody arrangement. My child’s father got deported before he was born, so he is not on my child’s birth certificate, but he is active and sends monthly child support with no order from the court just our own personal arrangement. I am interested in getting my child‘s passport. My child’s father is not able to get the form stating he gives permission notarized and mailed, so I am attempting to file for sole legal custody or to obtain permission from the court. In TN a parenting plan seems to be the first step in petitioning for sole legal custody however, I am not sure the correct legal steps to take to obtain the courts permission or sole legal custody due to our irregular custody arrangement. I can’t afford a lawyer and will be looking up possible pro bono ones but at this time I am just looking for advice to at least start the process. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
