On 7/27/2024 my best friend was arrested in Ohio for a “Felony Theft” warrant out of an Indiana county. Yesterday I received this news. All information is pertinent so please bear with the longer read.
He was a passenger with his sister driving when she was pulled over for making a right turn on a red light where it’s stated otherwise by signage. Upon giving the LEO his information to run the officer then placed him under arrest for a warrant out of the neighboring state of Indiana. Warrant for $30,000 theft on a vehicle. It couldn’t be located for Repossession so the warrant was set out. He and his sister both say that he wasn’t read his rights upon arrest. And he says he hasn’t been read them since he’s arrived at the jail.
The truck he got in Indiana from a used car lot. It served him well out here, but once he got to the city he learned it was just too much for the tight spaces. So, with the banks informed, he sold the truck to another 3rd party. This person knew that they were going to be paying the rest of the way on it and was pretty happy about the deal. New owner never paid on it we’re guessing or it wouldn’t have been up for Repo. All the paperwork had to be notarized.
Now he himself is already a felon, marijuana charges 9 years ago. He was incarcerated for 3 years over this; he knows how this works pretty well. So I believe him when he, and his sister, say that he wasn’t read his right at all. He even says after getting to the jails he still hasn’t been read them.
He was set to have all his previous records expunged, he only owed $2000 more on his fines. It equated to be paid off in the next 3 months or so. So he is 100% already being watched and tracked by the court systems. He has to let them know whenever he moves, and he has to see a CO every 6 months. It used to be much more frequent checking ins but the CO herself kept lengthening that because he proven he is a trusted person now.
His warrant was set out in March of 2024. He has placed several applications for complex management positions that better suit his new location change. I’ve done this job as well, and know that the background checks ran for these positions are pretty deep. NONE of these checks came back with any red flags as to a current warrant.
He has seen his CO twice since the warrant was placed. Once for a drug test and once for his move to Ohio. She didn’t know about his warrant at all? Surely she would be privy to the fact that he’s got active warrants. There’s just so many other ways he could have been arrested before last week. They have his new address, he’s moving across state lines, and this happens 9 months AFTER his initial move?
He’s remained silent the whole time other than letting the arresting officer hear some expletives.”
