Court/Legal Clerk III Job Description

A Court/Legal Clerk III plans to organize and supervises the work of support staff in the Municipal Court Department.  Incumbents are expected to demonstrate leadership qualities and initiative, meet deadlines, manage time efficiently, and communicate clearly.  Duties include assisting the supervisor in coordinating, summarizing, and evaluating statistical information; investigating, resolving, and responding to complex customer service issues; preparing written reports and employee performance reviews; training and developing employees; monitoring the workflow in a section, and assisting with various types of audits.

Ideal Candidate

  • Understanding of alpha and numerical filing systems.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Familiar with legal terminology, State and Federal constitutional provisions, State Statutes, Municipal Ordinances, and rules of civil law and criminal procedure.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with members of the public, judges, attorneys, and other employees in the legal system.


$15.80 (minimum) - $24.04 (maximum) hourly / $32,864 - $50,003 annually.

Minimum Qualifications

  • One year of college coursework (approximately 30 credit hours) in business, public administration, criminal justice, legal studies, or related field.
  • Lead or Supervisory experience.
